This winter, the weather had done what many fear: Washington has been shut down. No new legislation, sound bites, intervention, or intrusion in our lives for a short break. THANK GOD!
Washington likes to give the impression that they are doing the work for the American People, and without their constant vigilance, life in America will cease to continue! It is a perspective that people in power like to propagate so that they can hold their base of power and personal importance. It is also the same attitude that is perpetuated within churches, companies, and organizations by people who are small minded and want their culture to sense that “without me you won’t make it.”
There is only one person who holds that position in the universe and that would be Jesus who said (this applies if you believe in him, and is still a great life lesson if you don’t… but you should…) “without me you can do nothing”.
Jesus though, was all about empowerment, not servitude. He commanded His disciples to go out, preach, do the works of ministry that he did (healing, casting out devils, etc.), and minister as He would.
At one point, the disciples came to Jesus and told Him that they had commanded a man who was casting out devils in his name, because he wasn’t one of them. Jesus told the disciples to leave them alone. Jesus wanted the work done, not caring who got the immediate credit – Jesus just wants people to be free.
Washington on the other hand acts as though, you and I will be stranded in the wilderness if they are on TV and telling us of all the good work they are doing on our behalf: taxes, regulations, and protecting us from ourselves.
Never think that you need the all-knowing, all serving, help of government to live your daily life. If you are reading this and haven’t noticed, you are still alive and living. I think we should be thanking God for the snow, and pray that we get even more.
Better yet, let’s vote for anyone who promises upon penalty of death to only show up in Washington and vote, on the basic most common needs for national security and finance. In fact, if a Congressman/Senator promises to not do anything that is who I would consider voting for. They aren’t doing anything now, and life is good!
